22-year-old Northern Ireland native Rory McIlroy won the 2012 edition of the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and played like the world’s #1 golfer in the process.

He made clutch shots on the way to the win. With a two-shot lead on the par-5 18th hole and made par to close with a 1-under-par 69 and the win he needed to dislodge Luke Donald from the top spot in the world golf rankings.

McIlroy is the 16th player to be named #1 in the world, and the second-youngest behind Tiger Woods, who was 21 when he first became #1 after the 1997 U.S. Open.

Speaking of Woods, he is playing like his old self again.

He made two eagles in the final round and wound up two shots behind, along with Tom Gillis, who birdied the last hole for a 69.

Woods finished at 270, his lowest 72-hole score since he carded a 265 at the 2009 BMW Championship, his last PGA Tour win.

McIlroy, who finished the tournament at 12-under 268, won for the fifth time in his career.
