New Cincinnati Reds closer Ryan Madson is glad he doesn’t have to face Brandon Phillips, Jay Bruce and Joey Votto anymore.

However, he is anxious to help them get back to the playoffs and to the World Series.

The former Philadelphia Phillies closer who had 32 saves in 34 chances with a 2.37 ERA, says he’s glad to jump at the Reds’ deal of one-year, $8.5 million contract with a mutual option for 2013.

The past two seasons have been solid for the righthander, as he has allowed only 96 hits, while pitching 113.2 innings with a 2.45 ERA. 2011 was his first season as a closer.

The 31-year-old from Long Beach, California has no problem pitching in home-run haven ballparks like Citizen Bank in Philadelphia and Great American in Cincinnati. He allowed only two homers last season in 60.2 innings and four in 53 innings in 2010.
