When Jason Brown stepped down on Monday February 8 as the Chieftains head football coach, it surprised and shocked everybody area the Logan County area. Why would anyone want to leave a successful program. But as Brown said, “he wanted to put his time and efforts in new areas both professionally and personally”.
Brown was successful in seven seasons, he was 38-34 and the Chiefs won a share of the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division title in 2004 his second season as head coach.
But this past week, Bellefontaine school officials chose Chris Schmidt during the board of education meeting.
Schmidt is a 1996 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and spent the last five seasons as an assistant coach under Jason Brown. Schmidt has taught at Bellefontaine High School for nine years since graduating from Wittenberg University in 2000. Schmidt was also a player for the Chieftains during his days as a student.
