The Cleveland Indians announced this week that Columbus RHP Justin Germano has been named the team’s Minor League Player of the Week for July 24-30.

The Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance in the Indians Player Development System and is announced each week through the end of the minor league baseball season.

This past week, the 28-year-old Germano pitched the first perfect game in Columbus Clippers club history as he retired 27 straight batters, striking out 7 on 95 pitches, 68 strikes in the team’s 3-0 win over the Syracuse Chiefs. He never reached a 3-ball count and recorded 11 groundouts and nine flyouts to go with the seven punchouts.

The perfect game also was the first thrown in the International League since 2003 and marked the 6th no-hitter in Columbus history as well. Additionally, he was named the International League Pitcher of the Week.

A 13th round selection by the San Diego Padres in the 2000 June draft, Germano was signed by the Indians as a free agent in March 2010.
