The Columbus Clippers offense was able to muster up enough runs to support the perfect game pitching of starter Justin Germano in beating Syracuse 3-0.

Germano threw the first perfect game in Clippers history by going nine innings and striking out seven hitters.

The Clippers offense came into the game struggling, scoring one run in the last 18 innings of play.

In the first inning at Syracuse, the IL’s best team got off to a good start. Tim Fedroff led off the game with a double down the right field line. After Jason Donald popped out and Luis Valbuena grounded out, Fedroff moved up to third base, Cord Phelps came up with two outs and put Columbus up 1-0 with an RBI double.

The offense continued in the second inning. Chad Huffman drew a two-out walk. That was followed by a Paul Phillips single. Fedroff came to the plate and had a two-run triple that put Columbus up 3-0.

Germano had the sixth no-hitter in Clippers history.

Germano was the winner, he’s 3-6. Craig Stammen (8-5) was the loser for the Chiefs.

The game took 2 hours, 14 minutes before a crowd of 4,895 at Alliance Bank Stadium.

It was the fifth 9-inning perfect game in International League since 1884.

The last IL perfect game was Bronson Arroyo for Pawtucket in 2003.
