Reserve guard Daequan Cook got the news he had been hoping.

The former Ohio State star received a qualifying offer from the Oklahoma City Thunder, making him a restricted free agent during this offseason.

The Thunder will now have the chance to match any contract offers Cook receives from other teams.

The Dayton, Ohio native joined the Thunder after being traded last year from the Miami Heat. He was able to get into the Thunder’s rotation in the middle of the season, scoring 6.4 points and shooting 45 percent from three-point range.

Cook, along with Michael Conley, Greg Oden and David Lighty led the Ohio State basketball team to the 2007 NCAA championship game against Florida in his only season with the Buckeyes.
