Popular, fun-loving Shaq retires after 19 NBA seasons

Shaquille O’Neal, who won three NBA  championships with the Los Angeles Lakers (2000, 2001, 2002) and won with the Miami Heat (2004) announced his retirement on Wednesday after spending his 19th season with various injuries with the Boston Celtics.

The 7’1, 325-pound giant from LSU played from 1992-2011 with Orlando, the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami, Phoenix, Cleveland and Boston.

He was a 15-time All-Star, four-time champion and the  2000 NBA Most Valuable Player.

The 39-year-old O’Neal retires fifth on the all-time points list with 28,596, 12th in rebounds with 13,099, a .582 field goal percentage that is second only to Artis Gilmore among the players with more than 2,000 baskets.
