The Columbus Clippers ran into a buzz-saw the first three games in Indianapolis. But on Monday after noon, they showed why they’re the best team in the IL with a 5-2 win at Victory Field.

A crowd of 12,168 saw the Indians season-high four game winning streak snapped.

Clippers starting pitcher Corey Kluber surrendered just a pair of runs on four hits in his seven innings of work, while relievers Carlton Smith and Josh Judy did not allow a hit in two innings of relief.

Corey Kluber pitched past the fifth inning for the first time this season and also earned his first win of 2011 after allowing four hits to raise his record to 1-3. Judy earned his sixth save of the season.

On the hitting side of things for Columbus, Luis Valbuena went 2-for-3, with 3 runs scored, 1 RBI and 1 walk and Cord Phelps went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI’s.

Indy LHP Brian Burres suffered the loss and is 1-6 on the year. He pitched 6 innings, gave up 5 hits with 3 runs earned, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.
