Capital Baseball drops a pair to Ohio Northern

The Capital Crusaders baseball team dropped a pair of games last Friday to Ohio Northern in Columbus.

Capital lost the opener 13-12 and 16-4 in the finale. The Crusaders (7-11, 0-2 OAC) battled back from a 12-1 deficit in the opener.

Overall, the Capital offense was paced by the duo of freshman Jake Thurman (Westerville, O/Westerville North HS) and junior Zack Byers (Columbus, O./Bishop Hartley HS). Thurman was a combined 3-for-7 with a walk and four RBI’s. Byers finished 3-for-6 with a double, home run, four runs scored and three RBI’s.

In addition, the pair of Marty Assmann (Columbus, O./Bishop Hartley HS) and freshman Brandon Natalie (Bexley, Ohio/Westerville North HS) made their mark at the plate. Assmann scored four runs and drove in three on the day while Natalie went 3-for-7 with a double, home run, walk, three runs scored and two RBI’s.

The Crusaders will return to action at home this Saturday April 10 with a doubleheader against arch-rival Otterbein at Clowson Field beginning at 1 p.m.
