Juan Agudelo scored in the 59th minute, and the United States rallied for a 1-1 tie against Argentina and Lionel Messi in a high-profile exhibition game in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Esteban Cambiasso put Argentina, ranked fourth in the world, ahead in the 42nd minute after a run to the end line by Messi, who passed the ball between the legs of U.S. captain Carlos Bocanegra.

Angel DiMaria’s first shot was stopped by goalkeeper Tim Howard, and Cambiasso scored off the rebound.

The United States is ranked 19th and had the majority of the crowd of 78,936 in their favor, started to play better with more vigor and zest.

The 18-year-old Agudelo took control and kept attacking the goal until he scored his second goal in three appearances.

Messi, the two-time FIFA Player of the Year, dominated play throughout the game, but was held scoreless which is a rarity.
