Game report from James Nathanson

The Northland Vikings have played in so many big games over the years that close games don’t phase them one bit. They know that when a basket, play or defensive stop is needed to win a game, it’ll go their way.

The second-seeded Vikings beat 15th-seeded Westerville Central in a Division I district final in the Ohio Expo Center Coliseum.

Winner of three straight district titles and four in the past five years, 23-1 Northland can win games even when they don’t play up to their potential.

Trey Burke scored 19 points to lead the way for the City North Division champions.

Ohio State football recruit Nick Vannett made two free throws with 15 seconds left to give Westerville Central a 62-61 lead.

Burke received the inbounds pass down the court and was fouled in the lane. He made both shots with 8.1 seconds remaining to send the Vikings up on top again, 63-62.

Tre Stennett took the inbounds pass, dribbled into the frontcourt and tried to go between two Northland defenders, but LaVonte Justice stole the ball away and was fouled with two seconds left. He made both free throws to salt the game away.

Jalen Robinson scored 15 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, while Devon Scott had 14 points, 12 in the second half.

The Westerville Central Warhawks were led by Quintin Henderson with 15 points and Kamorin Harris collected 13.

The Warhawks ended a surprising season at 17-7.
