Buckeye women go from 4-6 in the Big Ten to finish a respectable 10-6

Several weeks ago for the first time in recent memory, the Ohio State women’s basketball team was looking at the top of the Big Ten from the also-ran department at 4-6. The post-season looked like only a dream.

From that point forward, head coach Jim Foster, his staff and the players committed to teamwork, team defense and team offense to end the season at 19-9, and 10-6.

The Buckeyes most-recent win came over Wisconsin 80-47 on a very emotional Senior day for the class that includes Alison Jackson, Jantel Lavender, Brittany Johnson and Sarah Schulze before 5,509 fans in Value City Arena.

With their sixth straight win, the OSU women tied Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan for third place in the final Big Ten Conference standings.

The tie-breaker matches #5 OSU against the always-tough #4 Iowa Hawkeyes  in the quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m. Friday (today) in Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Wisconsin, who ended the season 15-14, 10-6, fell behind 39-14 and never recovered.

Lavender was her usual self, earning the 72nd career double-double included 20 points and 10 rebounds. Samantha Prahalis added 15 points with seven assists.
