Valparaiso ends Wright State’s 14-game home winning streak

Wright State shot 68 percent in the first half in building a 40-33 advantage, but managed just four field goals in the second in losing to the Valparaiso Crusasders 71-60 in Horizon League action at the Nutter Center Friday evening.

The Crusaders, the second-place team in the league, started the second half with an 18-3 run. WSU cut the lead down to five, 55-50 with 8:15 to play, but the Raiders could get no closer in the contest.

The loss ended the Raiders 14-game winning streak at home. The last time Wright State lost at home was a 77-65 decision to Butler on January 8 of last season.

N’Gai Evans and Vaughn Duggins each scored 19 points for the Raiders with Cooper Land adding 14.

Brandon Wood led all scorers with 26 points for Valparaiso, 16 coming in the second half.

The Crusaders shot 63 percent in the second and dominated the statistical categories: rebounding 36-23, 13-6 on the offensive boards, points in the paint 34-16 and second-chance points 21-8.

The Raiders fall to 11-7 overall, 4-2 in the league. Valpo ups its record to 13-5, 5-1.
