The Ohio State men’s hockey team opened 2011 with a 3-1 win over Vermont in the opening night of the Sheraton/TD Bank Catamount Cup in Gutterson Fieldhouse.

The Buckeyes came from behind with 5-on-3 power-play goals from Danny Dries and Sergio Somma for the non-conference victory, with Dries adding an empty-net goal. Shane Sims assisted on both power-play goals.

The Buckeyes improved to 9-8-1 on the season and now have a three-game winning streak.

The Ohio State men’s hockey team scored five goals in the third period, including two from Peter Boyd, and skated to a 5-3 victory over Army on day two of the Sheraton/TD Bank Catamount Cup in Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vermont.

After the teams traded goals in the first 6:27 of the middle period, the Black Knights tied the game, then the Buckeyes went on a four-goal run to close out the period with a 5-1 advantage.

Army scored twice in the third to draw within two, but the Buckeyes held on for the non-conference win.

Ohio State ups it’s record to 10-8-1 on the season and has won its last four games. The Buckeyes, the only team to earn two wins in the tournament, won the 2011 Catamount Cup title. Vermont defeated Harvard in game two as both teams ended the tournament 1-1. Army was 0-2 in the tourney.

Danny Dries was named the MVP of the Catamount Cup, with Peter Boyd also earning a spot on the all-tournament team.
