R&L Carriers NEW ORLEANS BOWL: Ohio Bobcats no match for Troy Trojans

Corey Robinson threw for 387 yards and four TD’s and Troy set a New Orleans Bowl scoring record with a 48-21 win over Ohio University.

Robinson completed 23 passes for 285 yards and four touchdowns in the first half of play alone, when Troy (8-5) raced out to a 38-7 lead.

Tebiarus Gill had a New Orleans Bowl-record with three touchdowns, all on receptions in the first half.

Troy finished with another New Orleans Bowl record, with 602 yards. The Trojans racked up a 371-39 yard edge through the first two quarters.

Ohio, who drops to 0-5 in bowl games overall, finished the season at 8-5.

The Bobcats were led by quarterback Boo Jackson passed for 209 yards and three touchdowns.

OHIO BOBCATS GAME NOTES

* Strong Safety Donovan Fletcher has been Ohio’s best player defensive player all year, notching a team-high five interceptions and making 68 tackles.

* Ohio was able to get an at-large bowl bid when fellow MAC teams, Temple and Western Michigan will be staying home.

TROY UNIVERSITY TROJANS GAME NOTES

* The Sun Belt Conference champions know this bowl quite well, having played in it in 2006 and 2008.

* The Trojans completed a “Drive For Five”, five consecutive years with at least part of the league title.

* WR Jerrel Jernigan scored nine touchdowns this year, five receiving, two rushing, and one each on punt and kick returns. He also threw a touchdown pass.
