BEARCATS-GOVS POSTGAME NOTES

FROM THE TOP

  • CJ Evans had his first career multi-touchdown outing in just his third career game.
  • Jeremiah Oatsvall tossed for more than 200 yards in a game for the first time since the 2019 opener.

CAPTAINS/COIN TOSS

  • Nic Screnock was the Governors captain.
  • Austin Peay won the toss and deferred to the second half.
  • Cincinnati elected to receive the kickoff.
  • APSU is 1-2 this season when calling the coin toss.

SERIES UPDATE

  • This was the seventh meeting between the Bearcats and Governors
  • All seven meetings have been road trips for the Governors.
  • The 35-point margin was the third-largest in the series. The 20 points scored by the Govs marked their highest in the series.

OFFENSIVE SPARKS

  • CJ Evans broke a 64-yard touchdown for a score as part of his 12-carry, 88-yard outing. Between his 12 rush attempts and three catches out of the backfield, Evans averaged 6.3 yards per touch on the day. He’s the only Gov to rush for more than 50 yards in a single game this season, and he’s now done so twice.
  • Armond Carter Jr. and Brian Snead hauled in their first career receptions as Governors. Jariel Wilson also earned his first carries as a Gov, and Bryce Robinson got his first career snaps as quarterback of the Govs in the fourth quarter, which led to one of Austin Peay’s fourth-quarter touchdown drives.
  • Baniko Harley finished with four catches for 94 yards; he finished the fall session with 11 catches for 216 yards.

DEFENSIVE STANDS

  • Kwame Sutton registered 1.5 tackles for loss, his third career game with multiple take downs behind the line of scrimmage.
  • Johnathon Edwards broke up a pair of passes for his third career multi-pass break-up game.
  • Koby Perry earned his first career start and responded with a team-high six tackles.

SPECIAL TEAMS SPRINTS

  • The Governors streak of not landing a ball in the end zone on a punt continued; Austin Peay has now gone 20 straight games without a punt going for touchback.
  • Grant Paulette hit from 30 and 29 yards, his first career outing with multiple made field goals.
