Purdue Athletics Announces “More Than A Game” Campaign

Tue, Aug 11, 2020 2:41 pm

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - In partnership with the John Purdue Club, vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics Mike Bobinski has announced the creation of the “More Than A Game” campaign. The goal of the campaign is to help the athletics department navigate the financial ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic and position all Boilermakers for future success.

“When I came to Purdue I saw promise, and a university that was ready to win. I knew that if we were ‘all in’ then we could achieve great things,” said Bobinski. “We’ve been doing everything we can to be fiscally responsible in the face of the crisis… but now we need your help to keep it going. All the hard work we’ve put in to get here is now in jeopardy. The ‘More Than A Game’ campaign is critical to the future of Purdue Athletics.”

Purdue Athletics is one of only a handful of Division I athletics departments that is entirely self-sustaining: it does not receive any taxpayer dollars, funding from Purdue University, or student fees. John Purdue Club memberships aim to fund the $12 million scholarship bill for student-athletes, and this separate fund will help offset a potential Purdue Athletics shortfall that could approach or exceed $50 million.

“The ‘More Than A Game’ campaign is the top priority for the John Purdue Club and the department because it impacts so many people in the Purdue community,” says Tim House, senior associate athletics director and assistant vice president for development. “Since COVID-19 became a reality earlier this year, I continue to be amazed and humbled by the support of everyone who calls themselves a Boilermaker. We need the support now more than ever.”

Boilermakers can make a contribution to the More Than A Game campaign by contacting their Boilermaker Athletics Representative or by visiting JPCMoreThanAGame.com. Additionally, announcements are forthcoming regarding options for those who have purchased tickets for Purdue Athletics events that may have been altered by COVID-19. One option will be to donate ticket costs to More Than A Game.

Those who support the “More Than A Game” campaign will receive additional John Purdue Club priority points as follows:

  • 3 priority points per $100 for all cash gifts to the campaign until June 30, 2021
  • 1 priority point per $100 for all remaining pledge payments scheduled between June 30, 2021 and June 30, 2025
  • JPC members will automatically receive 2 points per $100 for their annual gift made between May 1, 2020 and April 30, 2021. Contributions to the “More Than A Game” campaign are in addition to and will not count towards John Purdue Club memberships.

Those who pledge $5,000 or more will be have their names immortalized outside of Mackey Arena at the conclusion of the campaign, as cornerstones of both this campaign and of the department’s future success. The size and scope of the recognition will be determined by individual donor generosity.

To maximize the impact of your gift, the “More Than A Game” campaign will also be a giving option during Purdue Day of Giving on September 9, 2020.

To support the initiative, please visit JPCMoreThanAGame.com. If you would like more information or have questions, contact your Boilermaker Athletics Representative or the John Purdue Club offices at 765.494.2582.
