Astros trade for Reds LHP Brooks Raley

August 9, 2020

Houston to send player to be named later to Cincinnati

HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Astros have acquired LHP Brooks Raley from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for a player to be named later. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager James Click.

Raley will report to Houston this week before being added to the Major League roster. To make room for Raley in the club’s Player Pool, the Astros have transferred RHP Roberto Osuna to the 45-day IL.

Raley, 32, made four appearances for the Reds this season before being designated for assignment on Thursday. This season is his first back in Major League Baseball since 2013, as he spent his last five seasons with the Lotte Giants in the Korean Baseball Organization (2015-19).

In 2019, Raley made 30 starts for Lotte posting a 3.88 ERA (78ER/181IP). He’s recorded at least 30 starts, 178.1 innings and 134 strikeouts in each of his five seasons in the KBO. Over that span, he was one of only two pitchers in the KBO to record at least 150 starts and at least 900 innings pitched. In January, the Reds signed Raley to a minor league contract and invited him to Spring Training. A native Texan, Raley attended Uvalde (TX) High School and played college baseball at Texas A&M.
