Dayton Men’s Basketball ranked 23rd in Attendance Nationally

UD Averaged A School-Record 13,346 Fans A Game

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men’s basketball team ranked 23rd nationally in average attendance in 2019-20 in the annual men’s basketball attendance report that was announced today by the NCAA.


The Flyers set a school record in average attendance last year, averaging 13,346 fans a game. That was 238 more than the previous record set in 2016-17.


“Our tremendous fan support is well-known across the country,” UD Vice-President and Director of Athletics Neil Sullivan said.  “But by no means is it taken for granted by our student-athletes, our coaches and our staff.  On behalf of everyone involved with University of Dayton Athletics, we say ‘Thank You’ to the Flyer Faithful.”


Other Notable Attendance Figures

• UD has finished in the national Top 25 in attendance the last six seasons.

• Rated in the Top 30 for 23 straight years

• Since UD Arena opened in 1969, Dayton has been in the NCAA`s Top 35 in all 50 seasons, and in the Top 25 a total of 32 times

• Five of UD’s top six yearly average attendances in school history have come in the last five seasons

• The Flyers led the Atlantic 10 in attendance for the 23rd straight season

• Nearly 10-and-a-half million fans have attended Flyer games at UD Arena since the Arena opened on Dec. 6, 1969.


Dayton was 29-2 in 2019-20, setting the school record for most wins even though UD did not get a chance to play any post-season games.  Dayton ended the year ranked third in the nation and will carry a 20-game win streak into 2020-21, the longest active streak in Division I.  UD won its third Atlantic 10 regular season championship in the last five years, but this season went undefeated (18-0) for the first time.


The Flyers return 10 letterwinners and two starters from that team, led by three-year starter and First Team All-Atlantic 10 point guard Jalen Crutcher.


Dayton head coach Anthony Grant was the consensus national Coach of the Year, earning that honor from the Atlanta Tip-Off Club (Naismith Trophy), the NABC, the USBWA (Henry Iba Award), the Associated Press, The Sporting News, Fox Sports and
