Chicago White Sox make roster moves

August 4, 2020

MILWAUKEE – Prior to Tuesday night’s game at Milwaukee, the Chicago White Sox announced the following three roster moves:

· Placed left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodón on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder soreness;

· Purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Brady Lail from the Schaumburg training facility;

· Designated outfielder Luis Basabe for assignment.

Rodón, 27, left last night’s game after 2.0 scoreless IP. He is 0-1 with a 9.53

ERA (6 ER/5.2 IP) and five strikeouts this season, his sixth with the White Sox.

Lail, 26, was a non-roster invitee to spring training with the Sox after signing as a free agent on November 27, 2019. He will wear uniform No. 67.

Lail spent last season in the Yankees organization, combining to go 4-2 with a 3.83 ERA (21 ER/49.1 IP) and 67 strikeouts in 26 games (one start) between Class A Tampa, Class AA Trenton and Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He made his major-league debut in the second game of a doubleheader on August 12 vs. Baltimore, his only appearance with the club before being designated for assignment on August 14.

A native of South Jordan, Utah, Lail has gone 51-33 with a 3.97 ERA (327 ER/741.0 IP) and 575 strikeouts in 187 career appearances (112 starts) in the Yankees organization (2012-19). He originally was selected by New York-AL in the 18th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Bingham (Utah) High School.

Basabe, 23, is a career .248 hitter (546-2,198) with 104 doubles, 44 home runs and 257 RBI in 598 games in the Boston (2013-16) and White Sox (2017-19) organizations.

Following the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
