Wright State Athletics continues to excel in Academic Progress Report

The NCAA released its most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores on Tuesday, May 19 and Wright State once again showed its academic excellence. Wright State had 11 programs score 985 or better in the latest Academic Progress Report, including three programs that earned a perfect 1000 multiyear rate.

Last Tuesday, four Raider programs were honored as Public Recognition Award recipients. The Wright State honorees were men’s basketball (990), women’s cross country (1000), women’s tennis (1000) and volleyball (1000), which tied the most honorees in program history. To be honored with the Public Recognition Award, a program must finish in the top 10 percent of their sport in the most recent Academic Progress Rate results.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that both the women’s cross country and volleyball teams have been recognized and received perfect 1000 scores, as well as the third straight year for women’s tennis being recognized and receiving perfect 1000 scores.

“These APR numbers show the academic commitment our student-athletes embrace as they work towards graduation,” Wright State Director of Athletics Bob Grant said. “Our administration, coaches and academic staff push our student-athletes to utilize their resources and be successful, both in the classroom and in their sport. I am proud of how they represent themselves, their families, their teams and Wright State.”

This year’s APR report is a multi-year rate based on scores from the academic years 2015-16 through 2018-19.

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
