Four Wright State Raiders teams receive NCAA Public Recognition Award

For the second consecutive year, Wright State saw a record four programs earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards for multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores that rank among the top 10 percent nationally in their respective sports.

Wright State men’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball all earned the honor for the four-year period ending in 2018-19. This marks the fourth consecutive year that both the women’s cross country and volleyball teams have been recognized as well as the third straight year for women’s tennis. This is the second public recognition award for the men’s basketball program.

“I could not be more proud of our student-athletes for this accomplishment, and for the support provided by our faculty, academic advisors, coaches and administrative staff,” Wright State Director of Athletics Bob Grant said. “These recognitions continue to validate our P.S.A. mission that emphasizes the person first, academics second and athletics third. Today’s recognitions solidify the belief that we do things the right way and our student-athletes are champions and leaders both on the fields of play and, more importantly, inside the classrooms.”

APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. It measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.

The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
