Ohio State RB questions answered with addition of former Oklahoma star Trey Sermon

The Ohio State Buckeyes have always had great running backs.

But with J.K. Dobbins leaving for the NFL after the 2019 season, there were alot of fans and media wondering who would be the feature back.

Ohio State has a bunch of talented backs in Master Teague, Steele Chambers, Marcus Crowley and Demario McCall, but none of them have ever been the 20-25 times a game feature back that Dobbins was the past three seasons. Granted, Teague played more than all of them during this past season, but he mostly played when the Buckeyes had the game sealed up before halftime. He did show explosiveness, physicality and speed during his opportunities.

Trey Sermon

Entering the picture to answer the big question for everybody is graduate transfer Trey Sermon of Oklahoma.

Sermon is very familiar with the Buckeyes and Ohio Stadium. He scored his first college touchdown in the 2017 win over Ohio State. Sermon caught a touchdown pass, ran for 62 yards and helped Oklahoma upset then-No. 2 Ohio State with Baker Mayfield as the Sooners QB.

He chose Ohio State because they needed depth at RB, a leader at that position, best situation for him and felt comfortable with Buckeyes running back coach Tony Alford, who recruited him during his high school days in Marietta, Georgia. Sermon is more than capable if he can stay healthy. Sermon ran for 744 yards as a freshman and 972 yards as a sophomore, but had disappointing numbers last season, rushing 54 times for 395 yards in 2019 in limited action due to an injuries.
