Big 10 Conference Weekly Softball Awards

Illinois, Nebraska and Ohio State Earn Big Ten Weekly Softball Awards

Fighting Illini’s Sydney Sickles, Huskers’ Tristen Edwards and Buckeyes’ Avery Clark are first Big Ten weekly honorees of the season


Player of the Week

Tristen Edwards

OF – Sr. – Murrieta, Calif. – Vista Murrieta – Major: Management

• Batted .438 with four home runs, five RBI and nine runs scored, as well as a .550 on-base percentage and a 1.313 slugging percentage last week, helping Nebraska open with three wins in five games at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, N.M.

• Hit home runs in four of the Huskers’ five tournament games, moving into a tie for sixth in school history with 35 career home runs

• Had at least one hit and one run scored in all five tournament games as Nebraska averaged 8.8 runs per game during the event

• A two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree (2018 and 2019)

• Earns her fourth career Player of the Week honor

• Last Nebraska Player of the Week: Tristen Edwards (Feb. 18, 2019)


Pitcher of the Week

Sydney Sickels, Illinois

RHP – So. – Indianola, Iowa – Indianola – Major: Kinesiology

• Factored into all four of Illinois’ wins at last weekend’s NFCA Leadoff Classic, going 2-0 with two saves and a 0.00 ERA, striking out 14 while walking just three in 15.2 innings pitched

• Recorded a complete-game two-hit shutout over No. 23 Auburn in the tournament finale on Sunday

• Picked up four-out saves in both Illinois wins on Feb. 8 against No. 21 Ole Miss and South Alabama

• Earns her first career Player of the Week honor

• Last Illinois Player of the Week: Bella Loya (Feb. 25, 2019)


Freshman of the Week

Avery Clark, Ohio State

DP – Fr. – Prospect, Ohio – North Union – Major: Undeclared

• Batted .545 with a .615 on-base percentage and .818 slugging percentage, plus a home run and three RBI last weekend, helping the Buckeyes take three of four games at the Carolina Classic in Columbia, S.C.

• Hit a two-run home run to put OSU ahead to stay in its Feb. 8 win over North Dakota State

• Also had two hits against No. 19/21 South Carolina on Feb. 7 and in Sunday’s 10-inning win over UNCG

• Earns her first career Freshman of the Week honor

• Last Ohio State Freshman of the Week: Kaitlyn Coffman (Feb. 25, 2019)
