DALLAS – After guiding his squad to three wins in five days behind a 20-point scoring average, North Texas guard Javion Hamlet secured his first career C-USA Player of the Week award. Charlotte guard Jahmir Young claimed his fifth C-USA Freshman of the Week honor following another balanced showing across three contests. Awards are chosen by a vote from a media panel representing the 14 member schools. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World. 

Player of the Week
RS-Junior, 6-4, 191, G, Memphis, Tennessee
Hamlet led North Texas to three wins this week, extending the program’s overall win streak to eight and C-USA record to 8-1. The Memphis native played exactly 100 minutes and averaged 20.0 points and 5.3 assists per game while not committing a single turnover. The redshirt junior turned in balanced performances in each game beginning with 24 points, five assists and three boards against Rice. Against UTSA, Hamlet’s encore included 22 points, six assists and three rebounds before finishing the week with 14 points, five helpers and four more boards against UTEP. Hamlet is now averaging 16.6 points per game with a 2.8 assist/turnover ratio in conference play. It is his first C-USA weekly award.

Freshman of the Week
Freshman, 6-1, 185, G, Hyattsville, Maryland
Young averaged 18.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists for the week. Across his three outings, the freshman star shot 50 percent from the field (15 of 30) and 46.7 percent from deep (7 of 15). Against Florida Atlantic, he scored a season-high-tying 24 points while grabbing seven rebounds with two assists and two steals. He scored 20 of his 24 points to guide the 49ers back from a 14-point second-half deficit with a 26-10 run over the final seven and a half minutes to win the game. Against FIU, the Maryland product recorded 19 points, four rebounds and three assists. In the second half alone, he scored 16 points while going 5 for 5 from the field and 3 for 3 from the three-point arc. It is the fifth C-USA weekly award in Young’s career.
