Hurricanes lose Hamilton to broken leg; out indefinitely

The Carolina Hurricanes will have to continue their current run at another NHL Playoff spot without the services of star defensemen, Dougie Hamilton.

Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, announced on Friday, that the 2020 NHL All-star had underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured fibula in his left leg and is out indefinitely.

Before his injury in Thursday night’s 3-2 loss at Columbus, whom Carolina is fighting for the second wild card spot in the NHL’s Eastern Conference, Hamilton was named to the 2020 NHL All-Star Game in St. Louis next weekend.

The 26-year-old Hamilton, who has also played for Boston and Calgary in his NHL career,  has earned 40 points with 14 goals and 26 assists in 47 games this season. Among all NHL defenseman, he ranks tied for second in goals, fourth in points and tied for seventh in assists. He ranks second among all NHL skaters in plus/minus rating (+30) and has posted a career-high average time on ice this season (23:17), leading all Hurricanes players.
