Two of the Atlantic 10′s two best teams annually, VCU, Dayton clash tonight in National Television contest

DAYTON — The University of Dayton Flyers remain home to face VCU in Atlantic 10 Conference action Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.  Analytically speaking, it is a matchup with the A-10′s top two teams,

Dayton is 14-2, with both losses in overtime to Top 20-caliber teams — Kansas in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational finals and Colorado in a buzzer-beater at the Chicago Legends.  The Flyers are 13th in the Associated Press poll and 11th in the USA Today Coaches poll   UD is 3-0 in the A-10 after beating Massachusetts 88-60 on Saturday.

The game will be carried by WHIO Radio televised on the CBS Sports Network and streamed at CBSSports.com.  Streaming audio, video and stats will be available at DaytonFlyers.com.

THE TRANSFORMED UD ARENA
The University of Dayton has completed a three-year, $76.2 million transformation project of UD Arena in time for the Arena’s 50th anniversary season. The project transformed the 50-year-old facility into a state-of-the-art venue.  The upgrade, the largest construction project in University history, modernizes the Arena without losing the “soul of the bowl” – the atmosphere that has made UD Arena one of the best places to watch college basketball.

#TRENDING
• Six players scored in double figures, five had three assists, four had at least four rebounds and three had at least two steals Saturday in Dayton’s 88-60 win over UMass.   Ryan Mikesell led the way with 15 points, a career-high 14 rebounds and three assists.
• The Athletic named Obi Toppin its Mid-Season Player of the Year in a vote of their college basketball writers.  He is on four national player of the year watch lists — the John R. Wooden Award, the USBWA’s Oscar Robertson Trophy, the James Naismith Trophy and Lute Olson Award.  The Preseason First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection is also on the Karl Malone Award Watch List (top power forward).  Jay Bilas listed him as his top breakout candidate.
• Toppin had his 100th career dunk during the Virginia Tech game in Maui, which was just his 20th start and 38th career game. He now has 135.
• UD was ranked as high as 13th earlier this year, its best since December, 1967, when the Flyers were ranked sixth.
• Dayton has been ranked in the Top 20 for seven consecutive weeks for the first time since the last eight weeks of the 1957-58 season. WHIO’s Bucky Bockhorn was a star on that team.
• All eight Dayton home games left on the schedule are sellouts.  That streak alone would tie the previous Arena record for cap crowds in a season (8), but with six previous sold-out games, the record will be 14.  UD is also projected to average an Arena-record 13,363 fans a game.
• UD is first nationally in FG% (.524, 496-946) and second in assists (19.4).
• Seven different Flyers have scored in double figures this season. Six have led UD in scoring.

UP NEXT
• After hosting the defending A-10 season champ on Tuesday, UD is at defending tournament champ Saint Louis on Friday at 8 p.m. ET.  The Flyers are back home vs. SBU on Jan. 22.
