GAME NOTES

  • Expectations are high for VCU in 2019-20. The Rams have been ranked as high as No. 20 in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 19 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll.  VCU, which returns four starters from last season, was selected first in the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Preseason Poll. The Rams return 88.9 percent of their scoring from a 25-8 team that won the A-10 regular season crown and reached the NCAA Tournament
  • Last time out: Senior De’Riante Jenkins scored 14 points and junior Marcus Santos-Silva (11 points, 14 rebounds) supplied his sixth double-double of the year, but VCU shot 31 percent from the field in a 65-56 loss to Rhode Island Jan. 11
  • VCU is 11-5 all-time against Dayton, including 3-4 here at UD Arena. The Rams swept the season series against the Flyers in 2018-19 and have won four straight overall against Dayton
  • Dayton is VCU’s third ranked opponent of the season (LSU, Tennessee), the most ranked opponents the Rams have faced since the 2015-16 campaign. VCU is 15-46 all-time against the AP Top 25, including 1-5 under Mike Rhoades
  • Dayton Coach Anthony Grant was 75-26 as VCU Head Coach from 2006-09
  • No program has won more games in A-10 play than VCU since the Rams joined the league for the 2012-13 campaign. VCU is 91-34 in conference play over that span, a .728 winning percentage
  • VCU Head Coach Mike Rhoades will be in search of his 300th career victory today. Rhoades is 299-155 in 16 seasons as a head coach at VCU, Rice and Randolph-Macon
  • VCU’s win over George Mason was the 1,000th in the program’s history. VCU is 1,000-442 in 52 seasons since Richmond Professional Institute merged with the Medical College of Virginia in 1968 to form VCU
  • VCU recorded its first 6-0 start in school history when it knocked off Alabama State 78-62 on Nov. 25
  • VCU is currently 26th in defensive efficiency (89.7) and ranks second nationally in defensive turnover percentage (26.5)
  • The Rams rank seventh nationally in turnover margin (+5.7)
  • VCU has sold out 145 consecutive home games at the Stuart C. Siegel Center, a streak that dates to the 2010-11 season
