Walnut Ridge Scots rip through the Beechcroft Cougars 40-6 in Week 3 on 1ST & GOAL

The Walnut Ridge Scots hosted the Beechcroft Cougars on a steamy night. The Scots led by head coach Byron Maddox in his thirteenth season was looking for another solid outing. Walnut Ridge was replacing all league quarterback and three year starter Isiah Murphy this seasons so in comes senior Howard Thornton. Thornton with tons of talent around him led by Qian Magwood wanted to continue their success they had in the previous two weeks. Howard would go 18/23 for 183 yards 4 touchdowns and 1 interception in the victory. The Scots showed that they had a lot of speed on offense. The most impressive thing out of this game was the play of linebackers Jerrell Harrison and Antonio Tucker both players made it difficult for quarterback Deshannon Butler Jr. to even get the ball off in the passing game.

As for the Cougars it was a very long night for running back Diante Latham as he was not able to get going on the ground. Beechcroft and first year head coach Lee Snyder look to get these growing pains as they go into division play which will be tough with Northland, Centennial and Whetstone on the horizon.

Next on the schedule for Beechcroft is will be a division match up against East. As for the Scots they are on the road against arch rival Eastmoor Academy. That game will be right here on 1st and Goal.
