Indianapolis, IN. – 43-year-old Kevin Harvick says that Indianapolis 500 legend Rick Mears is his idol. Having watched him as a kid on television and in person at several races at the famous brickyard track in Indiana’s capital city.

At times, the Bakersfield, California native drives like Mears when he can win races and come from back in the pack at key stages to take control at the end to close it out.

On Sunday, driving in the 26th Annual Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard, he led 77 laps and steadily moved up the pack and took control in the final laps for his third win of the season and second at IMS. His victory ended a drought of 16 years between his last win here back in 2003.

“Happy” as they call Harvick, has always been one of the best active drivers at the “Brickyard”. He has the best average finish of any driver in the 400 field with a 9.4 average finish. Joining the Stewart-Haas Racing team in 2014, his average has improved with an average finish of 5.4, plus he has never finished worse than eighth in Indianapolis. Futhermore, he has never started worse than seventh and has led for 186 laps.
