Crew SC suffers another close loss to start second half of MLS season

Crew SC suffered a hard loss Sunday afternoon at Mapfre Stadium. It was a game full of chances that neither team could seem to capitalize on. Shortly just after the second half started Sporting KC’s Felipe Gutierrez struck giving them the lead in the 48th minute.

The goal end up being the only one of the game and SKC would hold on to win 1-0.  Harrison Afful of the Crew was given a red card for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity in the 74th and David Accam left the match with an injury.

Crew SC is back in action at home on Saturday, June 29th. They take on Orlando City. Game time is 7:30 pm. The team will be honoring legendary head coach Sigi Schmid. The first 7,500 fans will receive a Crew SC team scarf with Sigi Schmid’s name on embroidered on it. Schmid, who coached the team to its only MLS champion in 2008, died this past offseason, Christmas Day, December 25, 2018 at age 65 while awaiting a heart transplant.
POSTGAME NOTES:
**Defender Alex Crognale made his first regular-season start of 2019 for Crew SC during tonight’s home contest against Sporting Kansas City. Crognale recorded 48 touches, attempted 44 passes and finished with a passing percentage of 79.5 Since joining Major League Soccer in 2017, Crognale has made 23 regular-season appearances (12 starts), scoring one goal and providing one assist. He also started in and played all 90 minutes of two consecutive matches for Crew SC during the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
**Waylon Francis returned to the pitch for the Black & Gold during tonight’s contest against Sporting Kansas City. The match marked the first regular-season start and appearance for Francis since, suffering a left thigh injury during home contest against the Los Angeles Galaxy (May 8). Francis played 60 minutes, recording 39 touches, completing 22 passes and a passing percentage of 68.2. To date, Francis has made 95 regular-season appearances (87 starts) since re-joining Crew SC ahead of the 2019 regular-season.
**With his appearance in tonight’s contest, midfielder David Guzman recorded his 50th MLS regular-season appearance (44th start) scoring four goals and providing eight assists. Guzman played the entire 90 minutes, had one shot (one on goal), created one goal-scoring chance, registered 59 touches, made three tackles, attempted 46 passes and finished with a passing percentage of 84.8. Since joining Crew SC on May 8 of 2019, Guzman has recorded six regular-season appearances (five starts).
**Midfielder Robinho has featured for Crew SC in every competitive match since the beginning of the 2019 season, the only player to do so for the Black & Gold. Robinho played 29 minutes, had one shot (one on target), had one tackle and two crosses and led the team with a passing percentage of 85.7. Robinho joined Crew SC ahead of the 2019 season and has made 17 appearances (12 starts) and provided two assists in regular-season action, while making two appearances (one start) in the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
**With the 1-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City in tonight’s match, Crew SC’s 2019 regular-season record is now a disappointing and unusual 5-10-2 (17 points)
