Angels star CF Mike Trout named W.B. Mason American League Player of the Week

Rookie first baseman Pete Alonso of the New York Mets has been named the W.B. Mason National League Player of the Week and All-Star outfielder Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels has been named the W.B. Mason American League Player of the Week.

  • Batted .483 (14-for-29) with seven runs scored, two doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, four walks, a stolen base and a .559 on-base percentage across seven games.
  • On Wednesday, recorded his second multi-homer game of the season (also April 5th) to go along with a career-high seven RBI, becoming the first Angels player to log at least two homers and seven RBI in a single contest since his former teammate Torii Hunter on July 4, 2010.
  • Eclipsed the 20-homer mark for the eighth consecutive season in the aforementioned outing. Became the seventh player in Major League history to post eight seasons of 20-or-more home runs prior to turning 28 years old, joining fellow Most Valuable Players Giancarlo Stanton and Alex Rodriguez, as well as Hall of Famers Frank Robinson, Eddie Mathews, Mickey Mantle and Mel Ott.
  • Enters play today with 22 home runs on the year, which marks the fourth time in his career in which he totaled at least 20-or-more homers before the All-Star break.

Other noteworthy AL performances were Mike’s teammate Tyler Skaggs (2-0, 0.73 ERA, 12.1 IP, 9 SO); shortstop J.P. Crawford (.370, 6 R, 10 H, 7 RBI) and outfielder Domingo Santana (.370, 7 R, 6 XBH, 10 RBI) of the Seattle Mariners; infielder Danny Santana (.381, 6 R, 4 HR, 7 RBI) of the Texas Rangers; starting pitcher Homer Bailey (2-0, 0.69 ERA, 13.0 IP, 11 SO) of the Kansas City Royals; second baseman Jason Kipnis (.417, 6 R, 3 XBH, 10 RBI) and first baseman Carlos Santana (.348, 7 R, 3 HR, 5 RBI) of the Cleveland Indians; rookie outfielder Yordan Alvarez (.296, 2 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI) of the Houston Astros; infielder DJ LeMahieu (.435, 10 R, 4 XBH, 10 RBI), backstop Gary Sánchez (.375, 2 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI) and starter CC Sabathia, who earned his 250th career victory on Wednesday, of the New York Yankees.
