#2 Buckeyes get ready to defend Big Ten Championship against #13 Wisconsin Saturday night

GAME PREVIEW WITH WISCONSIN HEAD COACH PAUL CHRYST

Paul Chryst Wisconsin coach On upcoming 2019 Big Ten title game vs. Ohio State 12 2019 (16:43)

No. 13 Wisconsin vs. No. 2 Ohio State • Saturday, Dec. 7 • When: 8 p.m. • Where: Lucas Oil Stadium; Indianapolis, Ind. • TV: FOX • Play by Play: Gus Johnson • Analyst: Joel Klatt • Sidelines: Jenny Taft

After completing its third undefeated regular season in the last eight years, Ohio State will look to win the program’s 38th Big Ten title on Saturday night when it meets Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The game will be a rematch, as the two teams squared off Oct. 26 at Ohio Stadium. In that game, Chase Young registered four sacks and Justin Fields accounted for three touchdowns in a 38-7 Ohio State victory. J.K. Dobbins also had a big day, rushing for 163 yards and two touchdowns against one of the nation’s top rush defenses.

Wisconsin won the Big Ten West thanks to its 38-17 win last Saturday vs. Minnesota. The Badgers and Buckeyes will be playing for the 84th time in series history. Ohio State leads, 60-18-5.

GETTING TO KNOW OHIO STATE’S NEXT OPPONENT, THE WISCONSIN BADGERS

The university had its official beginnings when the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature in its 1838 session passed a law incorporating a “University of the Territory of Wisconsin”.

• During World War II, University of Wisconsin was one of 131 colleges and universities nationally that took part in the V-12 Navy College Training Program which offered students a path to a Navy commission.

• Located in Madison, about a mile from the state capitol, the main campus of the university is situated partially on the isthmus between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona.

• The University of Wisconsin–Madison has the 12th largest research library collection in North America.

• The University is the largest employer in the state, with over 21,600 faculty and staff.

OHIO STATE BUCKEYES NOTES

• J.K. Dobbins has 19 rushing touchdowns this year, seventh most in single-season history. He needs seven more to surpass Pete Johnson’s record of 25 in 1975.

• Over the last 11 meetings, six games have been decided by seven points or less, including one overtime game

• Ohio State is the first team to qualify for three consecutive Big Ten title games.

• Over the last eight seasons (2012-present), Ohio State owns a 44-6 record in “road” games (true road and neutral site games).

• J.K. Dobbins, despite just 71 second half carries all season and four games with zero second half carries, is No. 4 nationally with 138.1 yards per game and No. 4 in rushing yards with 1,657.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On the heels of its 56-27 victory at Michigan on Saturday, Ohio State named each player who saw playing time as a champion and also highlighted the efforts of J.K. Dobbins, Justin Fields, DaVon Hamilton, Jeff Okudah, Jake Hausmann and Justin Hilliard as the offensive, defensive and special teams Players of the Game, respectively.

Dobbins and Fields guided an offense that finished with 577 yards of total offense. The Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, Dobbins ran for a career-high 211 yards on 31 carries and scored four touchdowns. Fields, meanwhile, has his second career 300-yard passing day, completing 14-of-25 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns. Fields and Dobbins are the first set of Ohio State teammates to score four touchdowns against Michigan.

Hamilton led a defensive line effort that held the Wolverines under 100 yards rushing. A fifth-year senior, Hamilton had a career-high five tackles and added a sack and two tackles-for-loss. Okudah had a tackle and two pass breakups to key a effort in the secondary that held Michigan’s Shea Patterson to just four-of-24 passing in the second half.

On special teams, Hausmann was a key member of the punt unit that averaged 45.5 yards on four punts. Hilliard, meanwhile, started the game at linebacker in addition to playing on kickoff coverage. He made two tackles in the game.

#13 Wisconsin uses experience to win back the axe and Big Ten West with 38-17 win over #9 Minnesota

Paul Bunyan Axe Series Wisconsin and Minnesota (file photo)

MINNEAPOLIS — Jack Coan delivered two momentum-shifting touchdown passes in the snow for No. 13 Wisconsin, Jonathan Taylor added three touchdowns to his FBS-leading total and the Badgers forcefully repossessed Paul Bunyan’s Axe by beating No. 9 Minnesota 38-17 on Saturday to win the Big Ten West Division.

Minnesota was seeking to go undefeated at home for the first time since 1954, but the Badgers reasserted their recent dominance by taking home the traveling trophy for the 22nd time in the last 25 seasons. They took a 61-60-8 series lead.

Taylor, the Heisman Trophy contender who had 200-plus rushing yards in each of his last three games, gained only 76 yards on 18 carries.

Coan went 15 for 22 for 280 yards, the most of his career in a Big Ten game.

This was the only the sixth time in the history of the most-played series in major college football that both teams were ranked in The Associated Press poll, the first since 2014 when Wisconsin also denied Minnesota a spot in the conference title game by winning the regular-season finale.

Tanner Morgan passed for 296 yards and two touchdowns for the Gophers (10-2, 7-2). They watched their dream season take a painful hit from their oldest rival after ending a 14-game losing streak to the Badgers last season.

Morgan had two turnovers that led to 10 points for the Badgers, who scored touchdowns on each of their first four drives in the second half. Two of them covered 90-plus yards.

Through the end of the voting period on December 12, fans will also be able to vote directly on Twitter. To cast such a vote, fans should tweet the first and last name of the player, the player’s official Twitter handle, or a hashtag including the player’s first and last name. All three of these methods must include the hashtag: #ProBowlVote. Voting via Twitter is in addition to the online ballot at NFL.com/ProBowlVote, which will be available throughout the entire voting period.

New this year is the Pro Bowl Vote Sweepstakes – once a fan casts their vote, they will have an opportunity to enter for a chance to win one of the following prizes:

Tickets to the game are on sale at NFL.com/ProBowlOnSale. Fans in attendance can watch and cheer on the Pro Bowl players as they enter the stadium on the Pro Bowl Red Carpet, bringing them closer than ever to the NFL’s all-stars. Concession deals and “Kid Zone” activities will be available inside the stadium. Additionally, fans will be able to enjoy post-game fireworks to conclude the celebration.

Players for the game are determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches. Each group’s vote counts one-third toward determining the 88 All-Star players who will be selected to the Pro Bowl. NFL players and coaches will cast their votes on Friday, December 13.

Pro Bowl rosters will be announced on Tuesday, December 17 live on NFL Network’s Pro Bowl special “NFL Total Access: Pro Bowl Players Revealed” at 8:00 PM ET. The NFL is the only sports league that combines voting by fans, coaches and players to determine its All-Star teams. It was also the first professional sports league to offer online all-star voting in 1995.
