COLUMBUS – The Columbus Destroyers, presented by, announced this past week that CD102.5 is the team’s official radio partner for the 2019 season. The independent alternative rock station will air all 12 regular season games during the team’s 2019 inaugural season.

“We are so excited to be part of the AFL franchise resurrection of namesake Columbus Destroyers football team,” said CD102.5 Owner Randy Malloy. “Having witnessed these fast-paced games in the past, I can say that we are all looking forward to the thrills and spills associated with this exciting sport. Columbus loves football and now they can get their fix year-round.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to have CD102.5 as our official radio broadcast station,” said Destroyers COO Rich Witmeyer.  “They’re clearly a leader in the Columbus market and have extensive experience producing live sporting events. As we’ve stated from the start of this process two months ago, we continue to look for partners who not only share our enthusiasm for this game and our fans, but to help continue the direction Columbus has been going over the last decade plus.  We are excited to have found another one that meets those objectives.”

Todd Bell joins the Destroyers as the team’s official play-by-play commentator for the 2019 season. Bell brings with him 29 years of broadcasting experience, including serving as Ohio Dominican’s radio voice for their football team the last 12 seasons. Bell’s previous experience includes 11 years in minor league baseball calling games for the Columbus Clippers and Akron Aeros (now Rubberducks) and has additional experience working with Spectrum News 1, OHSAA Radio Network, and the Lacrosse Sports Network.

George Cooper joins the booth as the team’s color commentator. The Westerville native played fullback for The Ohio State University from 1984-87 and spent two years in the Arena Football League, playing for the Columbus Thunderbolts in 1991 and Cleveland Thunderbolts in 1992.

“[Todd] Bell brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in calling football games,” added Witmeyer.  “To be able to partner him with a guy like [George] Cooper, who is from the area, played at Ohio State and has experience playing in this league is a big deal for us. Those guys will do a great job and will continue to enhance the experience for all of our fans who tune in.”

Columbus kicks off their inaugural 2019 campaign next Saturday, April 27th at 7:00 pm when they take on the Albany Empire at Times Union Center, while full coverage of the Destroyers season opener can be heard live on CD102.5.

Crew SC back home tonight to face Portland Timbers in only matchup of 2019

Columbus Crew SC (4-2-1, 13 pts.) lies second in the Eastern Conference and plays host to the Portland Timbers on April 20, as the Timbers come to Central Ohio winless on the year through six matches in their season-opening 12-match road stint.

Speaking of winning at home, the Crew have not lost at MAPFRE Stadium since June of 2018, going 10-0-2 across all competitions with a plus-11 goal differential in addition to six shutouts, three of which have come in the 2019 regular season.

During the Crew’s unbeaten home stretch, only one draw has taken place (0-0 on Sept. 29 vs. Philadelphia), while only one match has exceeded a one-goal margin of victory (2-0 on March 30 vs. Atlanta). Notable stats to that trend? A home save percentage of 93 percent and a shot conversion rate of nearly one in every five chances, a top-10 mark in MLS.

Kickoff against Portland is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET at MAPFRE Stadium. Supporters can watch the match on FOX Sports Ohio, stream on FOX Sports GO, or listen on 97.1 FM The Fan or (English & Spanish).

Though currently last in the Western Conference, statistically speaking, the Timbers (0-5-1, 1 pt.) have held their own amongst MLS peers with a top-10 mark in chances created (62), including 15 created from set plays, a mark that is five ahead of Crew SC.

Midfielder Diego Valeri leads the team with three assists while forward Jeremy Ebobisse leads with two goals. Ebobisse earned his first cap for the U.S. Men’s National Team in a friendly against Panama on January 27, playing as a left winger alongside Gyasi Zardes and Zack Steffen, as well as Wil Trapp who subbed on in the 84th minute.

The 2019 campaign is the Crew’s 24th season in MLS and the 20th season at historic MAPFRE Stadium – the first soccer-specific stadium in the United States. The Club has qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs in four of the last five seasons, including winning the Eastern Conference Championship in 2015.

Renous, New Brunswick 2019 Kraft Hockeyville Winning Community

NEW YORK/TORONTO (April 17, 2019) – The community of Renous, New Brunswick, will host the 2019 Kraft Hockeyville Canada preseason festivities for winning this year’s competition. Now in its thirteenth year, Kraft Hockeyville invites Canadians to rally together to nominate and vote for the most passionate hockey community in the country. Renous, New Brunswick and their beloved Tom Donovan Arena, received millions of votes, as announced by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman during Hockey Night in Canada on March 30, 2019. The Montreal Canadiens and Florida Panthers will play a preseason matchup on September 18 in New Brunswick, the first time Kraft Hockeyville will be played in the province. The venue of the preseason game will be announced at a later date.

“All of our personnel and players are excited at the idea of going to play in New Brunswick, where we know we can count on a solid base of hockey fans who know and love the game,” said Geoff Molson, Owner, President and CEO of the Canadiens.

“The Panthers are proud to participate in this year’s Kraft Hockeyville game,” said Dale Tallon, Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations and General Manager. “Whether you’re in Renous or South Florida, supporting the growth of our game at the grassroots level is at the heart of our mission and we’re excited for Renous to watch our Panthers stars compete on the ice.”

In addition to winning an opportunity to host the preseason matchup, Renous, home to approximately 700 residents, will also receive $250,000 for arena upgrades for the Tom Donovan Arena. Over the past several years, the community has rallied together and fundraised money to keep the heart of their community open. Through their own fundraising efforts the community replaced the rink boards, put in new glass, and upgraded their ice plant. With the Kraft Hockeyville award the community plans to put in a girls’ locker room and upgrade the building to be accessibility-friendly.

Renous will also receive $10,000 in equipment from NHLPA Goals & Dreams. The equipment donation will be distributed through the local organizing committee to a grassroots hockey program in the community to be used in the purchase of new equipment to help deserving youth play hockey.

“Congratulations to the Renous community who rallied together behind a powerful story to become this year’s Kraft Hockeyville.  We’re excited to celebrate with them this coming September,” said Dana Somerville, CMO at Kraft Heinz Canada.

As winners of 2019 Kraft Hockeyville Canada, the town will host events such as NHL player and alumni visits, hockey clinics, and a pregame fan festival. The community will also welcome the most revered trophy in professional sports – the Stanley Cup. Details of the community events will be announced on their Facebook page closer to the event.

Kraft Hockeyville Canada is a partnership with Kraft Heinz, the National Hockey League (NHL®), and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) to support local rinks and community centres. Since its inception in 2006, Kraft Hockeyville has awarded more than $3.5 million to 81 communities across Canada and has celebrated 12 NHL preseason games in eight different provinces. Tickets to the preseason game are free and awarded to the winning community. Details on how to get tickets will be provided to the community closer to game day. For more information, visit
