COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s soccer team fell, 3-0, against No. 3 Kentucky Tuesday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 1-11-2 overall, while the Wildcats improve to 11-1-1 in 2018.

Kentucky scored the first goal of the match in the 12th minute when Sam Stockton slotted a through ball from the top of the box to the foot of Kalil Elmedkhark who finished with a goal into the lower right corner from six yards out. The Wildcats scored their second goal less than five minutes later when Jason Reyes drilled a shot from 23 yards out into the upper right 90 for the 2-0 lead.

Ohio State had two great chances to cut the deficit in half in the 35th minute but couldn’t find a goal. Etling’s header to the far post was stopped by goalkeeper Enrique Facusse at 34:11. A loose ball then found the foot of CC Uche, but his shot was halted on the goal line by a UK defender and Facusse jumped on it to end the opportunity at 34:15.

The Buckeyes were forced to play with 10 men after Jack Holland picked up a red card in the 49th minute. Just moments later, JJ Williams made it a 3-0 contest off a UK counter when he knocked a left-footed strike inside the far post and from 18 yards out at 50:40.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell issues statement on death of Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen

STATEMENT WRITTEN BY NFL COMMUNICATIONS; COURTESY NFLmedia.com

Paul Allen seated in an airplane 2013 photo By Miles Harris - Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, https commons.wikimedia.org

“Paul Allen was the driving force behind keeping the NFL in the Pacific Northwest.  His vision led to the construction of CenturyLink Field and the building of a team that played in three Super Bowls, winning the championship in Super Bowl XLVIII.  The raising of the “12th Man” flag at the start of every Seahawks home game was Paul’s tribute to the extraordinary fan base in the Seattle community. His passion for the game, combined with his quiet determination, led to a model organization on and off the field.  He worked tirelessly alongside our medical advisers to identify new ways to make the game safer and protect our players from unnecessary risk.  I personally valued Paul’s advice on subjects ranging from collective bargaining to bringing technology to our game.  Our league is better for Paul Allen having been a part of it and the entire NFL sends its deepest condolences to Paul’s family and to the Seahawks organization.”

Oct. 16, 2018

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Following a pair of 1-0 victories this past weekend, Alina Ortega Jurado (Waldgirmes, Germany) and Marissa Sheva(Sellersville, Pa.) were honored for their performances. Ortega Jurado was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week, while Sheva was tabbed the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.

This past weekend saw Penn State top Maryland, 1-0, on Friday, Oct. 12, and then defeat then-No. 21 Rutgers, 1-0, on Sunday, Oct. 14.

For Ortega Jurado, she was part of the Nittany Lion backline that allowed just one shot on goal between the two matches. Individually, she played the full 180 minutes on the weekend.

Offensively, Sheva netted the decisive goal in the 48th minute in Penn State’s 1-0 win over the Scarlet Knights.

The No. 21 Nittany Lions are back in action on Thursday, Oct. 18, at Indiana. The match is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana.
