NHL MORNING SKATE – NOV. 9, 2017

WEDNESDAY’S RESULTS

Home Team in Caps

TORONTO 4, Minnesota 2

NY RANGERS 4, Boston 2

Tampa Bay 5, SAN JOSE 1

VESEY STRIKES TWICE IN RANGERS FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

Jimmy Vesey scored two first-period goals in a span of 29 seconds to help the Rangers (8-7-2, 18 points) extend their season-long winning streak to five games.

*Elias notes that Vesey became the second player in 2017-18 to score a pair of goals in a span of 30 seconds or less, joining Avalanche forward Alexander Kerfoot (0:21), who accomplished the feat on Nov. 5, 2017 at NYI.

*Elias adds that Vesey’s quick strikes marked just the fifth time since 2001-02 that a Rangers player scored a pair of goals in 30 seconds or less and first since Jaromir Jagr (0:26) on Nov. 14, 2006.

*Kevin Shattenkirk, who leads all defensemen in scoring this season with 5-11—16, collected an assist to extend his point streak to six games (3-6—9).

LEAGUE-LEADING LIGHTNING CONTINUE STRONG START

The line of Nikita Kucherov (1-2—3), Vladislav Namestnikov (2-1—3) and Steven Stamkos (0-3—3) combined for nine points to guide the League-leading Lightning (12-2-2, 26 points) to their best start in franchise history.

*Stamkos (7-21—28) leads the NHL in points while Kucherov (15-11—26) leads in goals and ranks second in points. They are the highest-scoring teammates in the League, registering 14 more combined points than the next closest duo.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 32 saves to record his League-leading 12th win of the season (12-1-1, 2.41 GAA, .928 SV%, 1 SO).

MARLEAU CLIMBS ALL-TIME GOALS LIST

Patrick Marleau scored the 514th goal of his NHL career to surpass Jeremy Roenick for sole possession of 39th place on the NHL’s all-time list. Only Jaromir Jagr (765), Alex Ovechkin (571) and Marian Hossa (525) have more career goals among active players.
