Blue Jackets activate RW Cam Atkinson off IR

COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated right wing Cam Atkinson off Injured Reserve, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Atkinson is available to return to the lineup tonight when the Blue Jackets host the Nashville Predators. Atkinson, 28, suffered a lower body injury on October 28 at St. Louis and has missed the past four games. He has collected four goals and one assist for five points with four penalty minutes and a +1 plus/minus rating in 11 games this season. The Riverside, Connecticut native has notched 125-107-232 with 106 penalty minutes and a +10 plus/minus rating in 393 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets. Columbus’ sixth round selection, 157th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft, he set career highs in 2016-17 with 35-27-62 in 82 games, leading the club in goals and points and making his AllStar Game debut.

The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when they host the Nashville Predators. Game time from Nationwide Arena is 7 p.m. ET. Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio begins with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on the Eldorado Scioto Downs Blue Jackets Radio Network, including Sports Radio 97.1 The Fan and online at BlueJackets.com.

CBJ activate Carlsson, place Atkinson on IR

COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated defenseman Gabriel Carlsson off Injured Reserve and placed right wing Cam Atkinson on Injured Reserve retroactive to October 28.

Carlsson, 20, has missed the past 10 games with an upper body injury suffered on Friday, October 13 vs. the New York Rangers. He recorded an assist in four games this season prior to the injury and has 0-2-2 in six career NHL games with the Jackets since making his NHL debut at the end of last season. He also made his American Hockey League debut in 2016-17, recording 0-1-1 in three contests with the Cleveland Monsters. The Orebro, Sweden native notched 3-12-15 and eight penalty minutes in 92 career Swedish Hockey League contests from 2014-17. He was Columbus’ second firstround pick, 29th overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Blue Jackets sign RW Maxime Fortier to three-year entry level contract

Fortier is currently among the top scorers in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed right wing Maxime Fortier to a three-year entry level contract, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Fortier is currently playing with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Fortier, 19, has registered 85 goals and 137 assists for 222 points with 80 penalty minutes in 221 career QMJHL games with the Mooseheads, including 13-14-27, 10 penalty minutes and a +12 plus/minus rating in 19 games this season. He currently ranks third in the QMJHL in goals and points and is tied for fifth in assists.

The 5-10, 184-pound native of Montreal, Quebec made his QMJHL debut in 2013-14 and the following year spent his first full season in the league. After collecting 9-21-30 and 28 PIM in 63 games as a rookie in 2014-15, he has posted back-to-back 30-goal seasons. In 2015-16, he notched 31-46-77 and 22 PIM in 68 games and then set career highs in goals, assists and points with 32-55-87 and 20 PIM in 68 games in 2016-17. The current Halifax team captain led his team in scoring in each of the past two seasons and stood ninth in QMJHL scoring race a year ago.
