Dayton Flyers open NCAA Tournament vs. #19 Wichita State on Friday night

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The University of Dayton Flyers will face the No. 19 Wichita State Shockers in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 17 at 7:10 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on CBS, carried by WHIO Radio and is available with live video, stats and streaming audio at DaytonFlyers.com.
LET’S GO DANCING 
•Dayton has won five NCAA Tournament games in the past three years, one of 18 schools to accomplish that feat.
•This is the first time the Flyers have made the NCAA Tournament in four straight seasons.
•Miller is one of five active coaches who had at least five NCAA wins in his first four seasons. The others are Mark Few, Thad Matta, Shaka Smart and Roy Williams.
•The Flyers advanced to the Regional Semifinal seven times, the Regional Final three times, and finished as the National Runner-Up in 1967.
BROTHER TO BROTHER
• Dayton’s Archie Miller and his brother Sean at Arizona made college basketball history when they were the two brothers to be named coach of the year in their respective conferences.

•Dayton ranks in the NCAA Top 50 in scoring defense (49th), 3-point field goal percentage (37th), assist-to-turnover ratio (33rd), turnover margin (25th), turnovers forced (47th), field goal shooting (49th), field goal defense (48th) and steals per game (26th).
•Since the start of the 2013-14 season, UD is 34-15 in games decided by five points or less.
•Scoochie Smith is averaging a team-best 15.7 points and 5.0 assists in his last six games.
•In his last four games, Kendall Pollard is averaging 16.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and shooting .548 from the field.
•Charles Cooke has scored in double figures in all but two games he’s played this year.
•In the last seven games, Cooke is averaging 14.9 points and shooting 37 of 74 from the field.

•When Ryan Mikesell shoots 50 percent or better from the floor, UD is 12-2 this season.
•The Flyers are 29-4 the last three years when Darrell Davis connects on two or more three pointers in a game. UD is 10-1 this year.
•Xeyrius Williams has scored in double figures in six of the last nine contests.
•Williams in his last five games is averaging 11.8 points and shooting 12 of 24 from 3-point range.
•UD is shooting .493 from the floor in victories this year and .395 in its losses this season.
•The Flyers are 42-1 when limiting opponents to 60 points or less in the last five seasons and 8-0 this year.
•UD has won 35 of its last 36 games when scoring 80-plus points.
•Dayton has won 43 of the last 50 games when three or more players score in double figures.
•The Flyers have forced 10 or more turnovers all but one game this year.

•Dayton is one of 18 schools to have made the last four NCAA Tournaments.
•Joining Dayton are Kansas (28 straight appearances), Duke (22), Michigan State (20), Wisconsin (19), Gonzaga (19), North Carolina (7), Cincinnati (7), VCU (7), Arizona (6), Iowa State (6), Wichita State (6), Oregon (5), Villanova (5), Dayton (4), Baylor (4), Providence (4), Xavier (4) and Kentucky (4).
ABOUT WICHITA STATE 
•The Shockers, 30-4 overall, reached the 30-win mark for the fourth time in five years and enter postseason play on a 15-game winning streak.
•Three Shockers are scoring in double figures led by Markis McDuffie (11.8 ppg). Landry Shamet (11.1 ppg) and Darral Willis Jr. (10.2 ppg) add to the attack.
SERIES HISTORY 
•Dayton leads the all-time series 2-0.
•The last meeting between the two programs came when the Flyers defeated Wichita State, 79-71, in the NIT First Round on March, 15, 1962.
