Bengals and Terrell Owens reach agreement on contract

The Cincinnati Bengals reached agreement on a contract Tuesday with wide receiver Terrell Owens. He’ll have a one-year deal paying $2 million with a chance to make an additional $2 million in performance bonuses.

Cincinnati was his first choice, giving him a chance to team with close friend Chad Ochocinco, who has already given the pair a nickname, “Batman and Robin”. The Bengals made the offer on Monday and Owens accepted the next day.

Bengals players are required to report for the start of training camp on Wednesday in Georgetown, Kentucky. Owens is expected to show up when workouts begin on Thursday and sign his contract.

The 36-year-old Owens caught 55 passes for 829 yards and five touchdowns with the Buffalo Bills last season, his least productive full season since early in in his career with San Francisco.

Cincinnati is trying to upgrade their passing game that was one of the worst in the NFL last season, ranking 26th. They won the AFC North by relying on a tough defense and their tough and productive running attack. Their receiving corps is now top-notch by adding Antonio Bryant, Terrell Owens, Matt Jones and the drafting of possession receiver Jordan Shipley out of Texas.

Bengals owner Mike Brown offers Terrell Owens a contract

Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown over the past several years has become the new Al Davis of the NFL. Meaning that he will give troubled athletes a second and third chance to get their career back in order.

Brown kept bringing wide receiver Chris Henry back on the team. Henry was arrested five times and died last season in by falling out of his fiancee’s truck.

In the past two years, the Bengals have signed running back Cedric Benson, running back Larry Johnson and Matt Jones, all were let go by other teams for off-the-field troubles and issues.

Now, Cincinnati is looking to add Terrell Owens to its already deep receiving corp.

Brown said Monday that the team has offered a contract to Owens and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. The Bengals passed on the chance to sign the 36-year-old after a tryout back in March. But in recent days, have given it more thought now that he is still available.

If Owens accepts the offer, and he has been given a deadline of Wednesday to do so, he would join his good friend, Chad Ochocinco on the Bengals.

The Bengals have also signed receiver Antonio Bryant and given him a four-year deal a few months ago.

The renewed interest in Owens has been that Cincinnati quarterback Carson Palmer has been working out with T.O. in California, and called both Mike Brown and head coach Marvin Lewis about trying to give a second thought to signing him.
