American Athletic Conference announces numerous Football game times, television designations


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced a number of kickoff times and television designations for the 2014 football season.


Among the game times announced Thursday is the first American Athletic Conference contest of 2014, as Tulane visits Tulsa Aug. 28 on CBS Sports Network. Other times and television listings include Tulsa’s Sept. 6 game against Oklahoma (noon ET on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2), UConn’s Sept. 6 home date against Boise State (Noon ET on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2), and a number of weeknight telecasts on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.


The American has the most challenging nonconference schedule of any league in 2014, including games against 10 teams that were ranked in the top 25 of last year’s final USA Today Coaches’ Poll (South Carolina, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Baylor, UCLA, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Duke, Vanderbilt) and additional games against BYU (three), Georgia Tech, Miami (Fla.) and Penn State.


The American capped a successful inaugural season in 2013 with UCF’s win against Big 12 champion Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl. The American joined the Big Ten and SEC as the only conferences with two 12-win teams under its banner.

American Athletic Conference announces start times for UC Football games against USF, Tulane



CINCINNATI – The American Athletic Conference announced a pair of game times for the 2014 University of Cincinnati football team Thursday.


The Bearcats game against USF on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 at Paul Brown Stadium will kick off at 7 p.m. ET and UC’s Halloween matchup at Tulane’s Yulman Stadium on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014 will kick off at 8 p.m. ET.


UC will open training camp on August 10, 2014 ahead of the season opener against Toledo on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. ET inside Paul Brown Stadium.



Season tickets for UC’s six-game home slate at PBS are on sale now, starting at $99 or $16.50 per game. The Bearcats are playing their 2014 home schedule downtown due to the $86-million Nippert Stadium Renovation & Expansion Project. For more information, visit or call 877-CATS-TIX.

A.J. Cann leads six Gamecocks on Athlon’s Preseason All-SEC Football Squads

COLUMBIA, S.C. (June 11, 2014) – Six University of South Carolina football
players have earned spots on Athlon’s preseason All-SEC teams, it was announced

Senior offensive guard A.J. Cann was the lone Gamecock to garner a spot on
Athlon’s first-team unit. Cann, a 6-4, 311-pounder from Bamberg, S.C., owns a
team-high 38 starts over the past three seasons and served as a team captain in

Mike Davis, a 5-9, 223-pound junior running back from Atlanta, and Skai Moore, a
6-2, 213-pound sophomore linebacker from Cooper City, Fla., were named to
Athlon’s second-team All-SEC squad. Davis was a second-team All-SEC pick last
season after rushing 203 times for 1,183 yards (the fourth-highest single-season
total in school history), with 11 touchdowns. Moore was a second-team Freshman
All-American last year after leading the team with 56 tackles, to go along with
a team-high four interceptions.

One of the biggest Gamecocks, senior offensive tackle Corey Robinson (6-8, 344), and one of the smallest, sophomore placekicker Elliott Fry (6-0, 165), were both named to Athlon’s third-team All-SEC squad. Robinson, a Havelock, N.C., product has made 22 starts protecting the quarterback’s blindside from the left tackle position. Fry, who hails from Frisco, Texas, garnered Freshman All-SEC recognition last season after connecting on 15-of-18 field goals while pacing the team with 99 points, the fourth-highest single-season total in school history. Shaq Roland, a 6-1, 176-pound junior wide receiver from Lexington, S.C., was tabbed as a preseason fourth-team All-SEC pick by Athlon magazine. Miami RedHawks Football announces start time for Marshall game


Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced an updated version of the 2014 football regular season schedule Friday (June 6), which included Miami’s home opener. The RedHawks will host Marshall on Aug. 30 at 3:30 p.m. inside Yager Stadium, live on ESPN3.

Miami is 30-11-1 all-time versus the Thundering Herd, but have not hosted the Green and White since 2003, a contest Miami won 45-6.

Remaining kick times and television schedule will be announced at a later date.

Akron Zips Football announces start times for Howard, Eastern Michigan games

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron Athletics Department, in conjunction with the Mid-American Conference, announced the start times for the 2014 Zips football season opener against Howard as well as its Homecoming matchup against Eastern Michigan Friday.

Akron will officially kick off its third year under the direction of head coach Terry Bowden at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, Aug. 28, in a game televised by ESPN3. The Zips will then host the Eagles in their first MAC contest of the campaign at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 4, as it celebrates the tradition of welcoming alumni back to campus.

Akron is coming off its best season since 2008 after posting an overall record of 5-7 and going 4-4 in MAC play in 2013. The Zips finished the year on a positive note, winning three straight and four of their last five games.

UA is now scheduled to have at least five contests carried by one of the ESPN networks this season. Other broadcasts – which will be carried by either ESPN2 or ESPNU – include home games against Bowling Green (Nov. 4) and Massachusetts (Nov. 18), as well as contests at Buffalo (Nov. 11) and Kent State (Nov. 25).

Additional TV assignments could be announced at a later date, as will kickoff times for the rest of the schedule.
