American Athletic Conference Weekly Football Honors – Oct. 10

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the week-ending Oct. 8.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Clayton Tune • Sr. • QB • Houston

Tune engineered Houston’s comeback from a 19-point deficit in the fourth quarter to lead the Cougars to a 33-32 win at Memphis. He completed 36 of 57 passes for 366 yards and three fourth-quarter touchdown passes to bring Houston back from a 26-7 deficit. Tune went 15-for-19 for 147 yards and the three TDs in the fourth quarter to help Houston become the first FBS team in 2022 to win after facing a fourth-quarter deficit of at least 19 points.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Macon Clark • Sr. • S • Tulane

Clark had a game-high nine tackles, including 2.0 tackles for loss, along with a key fourth-quarter interception to keep Tulane unbeaten in conference play with a 24-9 win against East Carolina. Both of Clark’s tackles for loss came on third-down plays, while his interception set up a Green Wave field goal that effectively put the game away.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jayce Rogers • Sr. • DB/KR • Houston

Rogers made a pivotal special teams play on his first career kickoff return in Houston’s 33-32 win at Memphis. After Memphis had taken a 29-13 lead midway through the fourth quarter, Rogers took the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to bring the Cougars within 10 points as Houston erased a 19-point deficit in the final 12:44. Rogers, who became the 14th player in American Athletic Conference history to register a 100-yard kickoff return, also had five tackles against the Tigers.

HONOR ROLL

John Rhys Plumlee • Sr. • QB • UCF

Completed 20 of 29 passes for 316 yards with two touchdowns in a 41-19 win against SMU.

Charles McClelland • Sr. • RB • Cincinnati

Had 21 carries for a career-high 179 yards with two touchdowns in a 28-24 win against South Florida.

Ty Van Fossen • Sr. • LB • Cincinnati

Had a career-high 16 tackles – the most by an American Athletic Conference player this season – with a tackle for loss in a 28-24 win against South Florida.

Daba Fofana • Sr. • FB • Navy

Rushed for career highs of 159 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries in a 53-21 win against Tulsa.

Michael Pratt • Jr. • QB • Tulane

Completed 27 of 34 passes for a career-high 326 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-9 win against East Carolina.
