COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following a record-breaking performance on Saturday (Sept. 3) afternoon, senior Jaylin Garner (Shaker Heights, Ohio) was named the Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 6).

Garner was a defensive force on Saturday against the Findlay Oilers, totaling four sacks and four tackles for loss. The four sacks broke the Ohio Dominican single-game record (set last November by Eddie Miller-Garrett) and tied the conference mark (set last September).

Across the NCAA, only five players had at least four sacks in the opening two weeks of the season. He was one of two in Division II to swarm the quarterback four times.

With four sacks and tackles for loss on Saturday, he sits third in program history with 35 tackles for loss (only three from the program best). In the sack category, he now has 21.5 career sacks, putting him second in the record books.

This is Garner’s first career weekly award. Ohio Dominican has had 36 weekly awards since 2017, including 17 on defense.
