COLUMBUS CREW SECURES THREE POINTS AT HOME
Columbus Crew hosted New York City FC Saturday night for an
Eastern Conference battle. Following an own goal in the third
minute by Jonathan Mensah, the Crew leveled the scoring at
one a piece in the 20th minute with a goal from Cucho Hernandez assisted by Luis Diaz and Lucas Zelarayan. Zelarayan continued the scoring for the home side in the 27th minute, this
time assisted by Luis Diaz. Pereira dos Santos scored in the
64th minute for NYCFC, but Zelarayan had the answer in the
75th minute with the match’s final goal. The Crew went on to
win 3-2.

team has lost just two of its 10 matches away from home,
boasting a record of 3-2-6 on the road.

MATAN GOES ON LOAN TO ROMANIAN SIDE FC RAPID

Columbus Crew announced on Tuesday that it had loaned midfielder Alexandru Matan to FC Rapid București of the Romanian First Division for the remainder of 2022. The Romanian
Liga I side will have the option to permanently transfer Matan
at the end of the loan period, which is set to expire on December 31. The 22-year-old has appeared in 34 MLS regular season matches since signing with the Black & Gold on March
8, 2021.

MISCELLANEOUS TEAM NOTES

HERNANDEZ SCORES FIFTH GOAL WITH THE CREW
Juan “Cucho” Hernandez scored the Crew’s opening goal in
Saturday’s home match against New York City FC. Hernan- dez’s goal came in the 20th minute of the contest, when he re- ceived a pass inside the box from Luis Diaz which he then sent
to the near post to make it 1-1 for the Crew. The strike marked
Hernandez’s fifth tally in seven* regular-season appearances
(five* starts) for the Black & Gold this season. Notably, Her- nandez currently has a Goals per 90 minutes average of 1.03.
