Kryidou sisters, Vermeer recognized in 2022

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A trio of Buckeyes were honored with 2022 Pocock Racing Shells All-America honors Thursday by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

Anneta Kryidou was named to the first team while her sister Maria Kryidou and Jessy Vermeer earned second team recognition. The Kryidou sisters are from Kalamaria Thessaloniki, Greece. Vermeer hails from Amsterdam, Netherlands.

General requirements for a student-athlete for CRCA postseason honors are:

  • The student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution
  • The student-athlete must have rowed at least 75% of the current spring season’s races in the varsity boat
  • The student-athlete must be nominated by her institution
  • The Head Coach of the student-athlete’s institution must be a member in good standing of the CRCA

The nominated student-athletes are then selected to First and Second teams based on the following criteria:

  • Strength of finish of the institution’s varsity eight within the country
  • Coach comments
  • 2k erg score
Jessy Vermeer

Anneta, in her first season in Columbus, also earned first team All-Big Ten honors and was named an OSU Scholar Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten. She rowed for Ohio State’s First Varsity Eight, which won the individual boat Big Ten title and clinched the 2022 Big Ten Team Title for the Buckeyes. The OSU 1V8 finished seventh at the 2022 NCAA Championships, helping the Buckeyes to an overall eighth-place finish as a team.

Maria also is in her first season with the Buckeyes. She also rowed for the 1V8 in 2022. In addition to earning first team All-Big Ten and OSU Scholar Athlete recognition, she was named the league’s 2022 Freshman of the Year.

Vermeer, who also rowed with the 1V8, has now earned Pocock Racing Shells Second Team honors twice. She time Academic All-Big Ten and OSU Scholar athlete honoree in addition to earning 2022 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar recognition.

Ohio State finished in the No. 8 spot at the NCAA Championships this year. The team also performed well academically with 53 athletes named Academic All-Big Ten, 23 tabbed Big Ten Distinguished Scholars and 73 earning OSU Scholar Athlete honors in 2022.
