CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Reds Director of Amateur Scouting Joe Katuska tonight announced the selection of INF Cam Collier (6-2, 210, L/R), out of Chipola Junior College (Marianna, FL), with the team’s first pick (18th overall) of the 2022 first-year player draft.

Katuska said, “Cam is an advanced hitter with a chance for a special bat and quality third base defense. One of the youngest players we scouted for this draft, Cam has continuously impressed us with his on-field ability and off-field makeup.”

Later tonight, the team will select 32nd as compensation for the loss of free agent OF Nick Castellanos, 55th (second round) and 73rd (competitive balance pick).

Collier, 17, is rated the the seventh-best draft eligible player by Baseball America and eighth-best player by MLB.com. The left-handed swinging native of Austell, GA is the son of former major leaguer Lou Collier.

As a freshman for Chipola in 2022, Collier batted .333 with 8 HR and a .956 OPS in 52 games.

Collier this summer became the youngest player ever to appear in a Cape Cod League game when he suited up for the Cotuit Kettleers.

I do enjoy the way you have framed this matter and it really does give us some fodder for thought. On the other hand, coming from just what I have witnessed, I simply hope when other comments pack on that people keep on issue and in no way get started on a soap box regarding some other news du jour. Still, thank you for this exceptional piece and though I do not really agree with this in totality, I regard your viewpoint.
