Columbus Blue Jackets News: ACQUIRES RIGHT WING MATHIEU OLIVIER FROM NASHVILLE IN EXCHANGE FOR 2022 FOURTH ROUND PICK

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired right wing Mathieu Olivier (pronounced oh-LIHV-ee-ay) from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2022 fourth round pick previously acquired from Toronto (122nd overall), Blue Jackets General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Olivier, 25, who was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, is the first player born in the state to play in the NHL in League history.  He has collected three goals and four assists for seven points with 88 penalty minutes in 48 career games with the Predators since making his NHL debut in 2019-20.  He registered 0-1-1 and 14 penalty minutes in 10 outings with the team in 2021-22.  The winger finished fifth in the NHL in PIM and posted career highs with 3-2-5, 70 PIM and 62 hits in 30 appearances in 2020-21.  He was originally signed by Nashville to a two-year, entry level contract on May 1, 2019.

The 6-2, 210-pound forward has added 19-23-42 and 262 penalty minutes in 156 career American Hockey League contests with the Milwaukee Admirals since making his professional debut in 2018-19.  He has recorded 75-plus PIM in each of his three seasons, including 5-6-11 and 76 PIM in 46 outings in 2021-22.

Olivier racked up 59-71-130, 390 penalty minutes and a cumulative +27 plus/minus rating in 300 career games with the Sherbrooke Phoenix, Shawinigan Cataractes and Moncton Wildcats in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2013-18.  He registered 80-plus penalty minutes in his final three campaigns and set career highs in goals, assists and points with 27-22-49 and 90 PIM in 67 games with Sherbrooke in his final season in 2017-18.
