NHL News: 2022 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series By the Numbers

NASHVILLE, TENN. (Feb. 24, 2022) – A look at the 2022 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series™ “By the Numbers.”

– The 2022 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series™ at Nissan Stadium will be the first NHL regular-season outdoor game for the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning will become the 27th different NHL franchise to compete in a regular-season outdoor game.

2 – The 2022 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series™ will be the second NHL regular-season outdoor game for the Nashville Predators. The first was the 2020 NHL Winter Classic® at Cotton Bowl Stadium, a 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars.

5 – Number of hours the Truly Hard Seltzer® NHL® PreGame at the 2022 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series™ will be open on Saturday, Feb. 26 in Parking Lot R at Nissan Stadium (1 p.m. – 6 p.m.). The 2022 Truly Hard Seltzer® NHL® Pregame will feature a variety of hockey attractions, free giveaways, live musical performances, and much more. More than a dozen official NHL partners will participate to engage fans.

6 – Six current Tampa Bay skaters have appeared in at least one NHL regular-season outdoor game (min. 1 GP in 2021-22): Ryan McDonagh (4 GP), Pierre-Edouard Bellemare (3 GP), Corey Perry (1-0—1 in 2 GP), Pat Maroon (2 GP), Zach Bogosian (1 GP) and Fredrik Claesson (1 GP). Lightning goaltender Brian Elliott appeared for the Flyers in the 2019 NHL Stadium Series at Lincoln Financial Field and in their 2021 NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe game.

– NHL outdoor games that required overtime (5 decided in OT, 2 in SO).

– Nine players who dressed with the Predators in their first NHL regular-season outdoor game remain with the organization: Matt DucheneMattias EkholmDante FabbroFilip ForsbergMikael GranlundRocco GrimaldiRyan JohansenRoman Josi and Juuse Saros.

14 – Tennessee is set to become the 14th different state (plus the District of Columbia) to host an NHL regular-season outdoor game. In 2017, Tennessee became the 15th different state (plus D.C.) to host a Stanley Cup® Final game since the NHL was founded in 1917-18.

18 – Wins by the road team in the NHL’s 33 outdoor regular-season games to date (Road Teams: 18-11-4; Home Teams: 15-15-3).

22 – Years since the “Music City Miracle” at Adelphia Coliseum (now Nissan Stadium) where tight end Frank Wycheck famously tossed a lateral to wide receiver Kevin Dyson for a kickoff-return touchdown in the final seconds of the AFC Wild Card Game, giving the Tennessee Titans a 22-16 win against the Buffalo Bills.

34  The 2022 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series™ will mark the 34th NHL® regular-season outdoor game contested. Of the previous 33 games that have been played, 19 of those have been hosted within football stadiums, 11 have been played inside baseball stadiums, two played atop a golf course, and one inside a soccer stadium.

35 – Number worn by retired Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne, whose jersey will be retired prior to tonight’s Nashville Predators-Dallas Stars game at Bridgestone Arena, the first retired number in Nashville Predators history.
