Holmes’ Second Weekly Honor Is Fifth Consecutive For A Flyer

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton forward DaRon Holmes II has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week after his effort in the Flyers’ win over Southern last week.

Holmes had perhaps his best all-around game in the Southern game.  He scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds, handed out four assists and blocked four shots.  He made three of five field goals, and four of six free throws in the win.

On the season, Holmes is tied for the team lead in scoring (10.4 ppg.) and second in rebounding (5.0).  He leads the Atlantic 10 Conference in field goal percentage (.651, 56-86).  His 23 dunks are third nationally among freshmen, behind Jalen Duren of Memphis (26) and Kendall Brown of Baylor (24), and just ahead of Chet Holmgren of Gonzaga (21).

This the fifth consecutive week a Dayton player has been named Rookie of the Week.  Point guard Malachi Smith earned the honor Nov. 30, Dec. 6 and Dec. 20.  Holmes was also recognized on Dec. 13.
