Columbus Blue Jackets News: Activates Joonas Korpisalo from IR, assigns Daniil Tarasov to Cleveland Monsters

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated goaltender Joonas Korpisalo off Injured Reserve and assigned goaltender Daniil Tarasov to the Cleveland Monsters, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. 

Korpisalo, 27, has gone 3-4-0 with a 3.95 goals-against average and .885 save percentage in eight games this season, missing the past five outings due to a non-COVID illness.  The Pori, Finland native is 72-60-21 with a 2.95 GAA, .904 SV% and three shutouts in 168 career games with the Blue Jackets since making his NHL debut during the 2015-16 season.  He was selected by Columbus in the third round, 62nd overall, at the 2012 NHL Draft.

Tarasov, 22, went 0-2-0 with a 2.22 GAA and .936 SV% in three appearances, including two starts, with the Blue Jackets after being recalled on December 2.  That night, he set a franchise record for saves by a goaltender in his NHL debut with 34 in a 3-2 loss at Dallas.  The Novokuznetsk, Russia native has posted a 9-4-2 record with a 3.04 goals-against average and .896 save percentage in 15 games with Cleveland since making his AHL debut at the end of the 2020-21 season, including a 5-2-2 mark with a 2.96 GAA and .897 SV% this season.  The 6-6, 196-pound netminder was selected by the Blue Jackets in the third round, 86th overall, at the 2017 NHL Draft.

The Blue Jackets return to action Saturday when they visit the expansion Seattle Kraken.  Game time from Climate Pledge Arena is 10 p.m. ET.  The game will be broadcast live on Bally Sports Ohio and streamed on the Bally Sports app.  Coverage begins with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show at 9:30 p.m. ET.  The game may also be heard on the Blue Jackets Radio Network, including flagship station Sports Radio 97.1 FM in Columbus.
