Blue Jackets recall Justin Danforth from Cleveland Monsters

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled forward Justin Danforth from the Cleveland Monsters, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Danforth, 28, has tallied two goals and three assists for five points in eight games with the Monsters this season.  The Oshawa, Ontario native has notched 6-6-12 and 16 penalty minutes in 29 career AHL games with the Monsters, Rochester Americans and Bridgeport Sound Tigers since making his pro debut in 2016-17.  He tallied 23-32-55 in 58 games with Vityaz Podolsk of the Kontinental Hockey League in 2020-21.  He ranked sixth in the league in points, seventh-T in goals and 11th-T in assists, leading his team in each category.

The 5-8, 188-pound forward registered 45-67-112, 99 penalty minutes and a cumulative +33 plus/minus rating over two campaigns with Lukko in Finland’s top professional league (Liiga) from 2018-20.  He captured the Lasse Oksanen Award as the League’s Best Player, the Golden Helmet (top scorer) and was named to the All-Star Team in 2019-20 after leading the league in points and ranking second in goals and fourth-T in assists with 27-33-60 in 56 appearances.  He played college hockey at Sacred Heart University, where he totaled 42-82-124 in 147 career games from 2013-17.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Monday when they host the Detroit Red Wings.  Game time from Nationwide Arena is 7 p.m. ET.  The game will be broadcast live on Bally Sports Ohio and streamed on the Bally Sports app.  The game may also be heard on the Blue Jackets Radio Network, including flagship Columbus Alternative 107.5 FM in Columbus.
